Sage, Physician, Counselor

E'lias Windjammer

A sage of Sharlayan's Physis Technon, E'lias tends to the residents of La Noscea as part of Sharlayan's turn back to Eorzea. He offers care without accolade, without judgement, and without reward, mending wounds of body and soul, in hope that small, deliberate, acts of kindness and love will truly change the world.

There are no weeds or worthless men, there are only bad gardeners - Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

About

Perhaps it's easier to separate E'lias's history using Vesper Bay as an edge. Before, a traveling priest, a seer of sorts, and a physician - someone breathing fire onto the cooling embers of his mentor's legacy in hopes they'd burn again. A life lived paying back a debt.Much of that life he spent in La Noscea, tending to the hurts and questions of fishermen, farmers, and pirates in the villages surrounding Limsa Lominsa. A life lived with every intent of being born and buried having never left the islands, nor the people he cared for.A vision in the year or so before the days where the sky caught fire, he left Limsa, acting on a vision that sent him to work for a company in Ul'dah, where he met his wife, Nailah Kanaan. He credits her with kindling a new fire and pointing him toward new roads. Roads that eventually lead to Sharlayan. There, at the request of the Lady Alexandara Bienvenue, he broke from the life he'd been living, to the debt of his mentor's ideals, and embraced a new one, the life of a Sharlayan Sage, and a member of Physis Technon. Her generosity saw both he and Nailah sponsored, made part of Sharlayan, and his new duties laid on him, carrying on a different legacy now, one of the Sages of Physis Technon. Now, E'lias serves as with the Eumeriya Mission, a small, independent agency, that, since the Forum's change of heart on Eorzean cooperation, sends its physicians to Eorzea to tend the wounds of the continent Sharlayan turned its back on. Work that returned him to Limsa, where he still travels those outlying villages, tending to wounds there, and in the Dawn Lady, the one-Miqo'te La Noscean free clinic.

Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect. - Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

E'lias smiles - usually the warm, professional, good humor cultivated by doctors. A smile for putting the mind at ease. Much of his appearance, clean, pressed, garments, properly ordered uniforms, serve the same purpose, speaking quiet, confident, compassionate, understanding. Though his eyes often cause problems for that effort, often looking at people in a way that suggests looking through rather than at them.In the moments where he can set aside the physician's mask, E'lias has a performer's fascination with life - an animated, as eager to listen as to talk, delight in it - especially in his family. And, as almost an inverse to his preference for Sharlayan professionalism while on duty, he dresses both loosely and vibrantly at home: Marks of someone used to dancing, used to entertaining, and used to the sun.

A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in--what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars. - Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

Out of Character

Disclaimer: While I write a doctor and a therapist, I'm not one and have no medical or psychological/psychiatric training. Do not take anything E'lias says as reasonable medical or therapeutic advice.

Personal Preferences & Boundaries

  • Themes: Adventure, Exploration, Medical/Therapy RP, Slice of Life, Mystery and Investigation, Research

  • Style: Usually Para/Multi-Para.

  • Walkups: I'm generally fine with walkup RP, but my schedule of late makes planning RP ahead of time a better fit. As a new dad myself, I do need to leave scenes abruptly to deal with family matters, and it's easier to plan for RP when I can. That said, if you want to walk up, go for it, or send me a tell if it makes it easier to start things.

  • Story Preferences I tend to prefer lighter themes in RP where I can. While I enjoy writing E'lias as someone who listens to trauma and helps people walk through it, I'd prefer not to frequently engage darker storytelling beyond that. There's a difference between recounted trauma and actively occurring trauma.

  • Style and Story: I tend to be pretty close to the earth, preferring slice-of-life themes to grand adventure, I'm also fairly lore-abiding as far as XIV goes, and prefer to stay back from the 'edges of possibility' in the setting.

  • Relationships: E'lias is married. He and his writer are not interested, trying is going to go nowhere.

  • MSQ: E'lias's story contains Endwalker and Dawntrail spoilers, specifically regarding Sharlayan, Garlemald, and Tural.

Medical RP Guidelines

  • Begin with the End in Mind: Know how you'd like your OC to recover from their injury or struggles with mental health, or whether you want them to at all. Let me know what your goals are, I'd like to work toward your vision.

  • Recovery Takes Time: A single session doesn't often produce results, and expect even with magical healing for there to be time to recover.

  • Not Everything Can Be Mended: Healing magic and alchemy have limits. E'lias can't reattach limbs, and if your body couldn't reasonably heal on its own with help, there may be little he can do.

  • Fade to Black: For my own comfort, I don't go into gore or explicit parts of medicine in detail.

Connecting with E'lias

General

  • He's a Doctor: You're currently injured or in need of medical attention. E'lias treats injuries without judgement and without payment - usually.

  • Counseling: E'lias considers healing of 'soul/mind' wounds just as important as physical wounds. If you need someone to talk to and to help you move beyond those wounds, ask, appointments are available.

  • Father: E'lias is a proud father, with a daughter nearing two and a son nearing one. He is very excited about his family, so questions about his daughter, Laleh, son Arjantin, or his wife Nailah, will certainly spark conversation.

Sharlayan

  • New and Foreign: If the Lominsan accent wasn't a dead giveaway, E'lias is a newcomer to Sharlayan and to Physis Technon, directly benefitting from the more open-minded stance adopted by the forum.

  • Physis Technon: If you work with, or for, Physis, E'lias is a new face running a new agency, the Eumeryia Project. You might know him, or his superiors. He is occasionally medical care in the Labryinthos, and does work with new physicians in Physis for training in general practice/family medicine and mental health counseling. Perhaps you took a class from him?

  • The Art of Somanoutics: E'lias studies Somanoutics with a focus on corporeal and incorporeal aetheric mending. If you work in similar lines of research, you may have crossed paths with him.

  • Accidents: When on duty in Sharlayan proper, E'lias is often assigned to the Hamlet, and deals with the injuries that come from research in Sharlayan's restricted spaces.

La Noscea and Beyond

  • Traveling Doctor: Even before joining Physis Technon, E'lias maintained a medical route in La Noscea, doing everything from delivering infants to palliative care. He's kept this route up for more than two decades. If you're from La Noscea, there's a chance he's helped you or your family!

  • Performer E'lias used to perform, dancing and singing, in his younger years alongside his mother C'laria Windjammer, the Del Sol Sapphire. You probably haven't heard of him, but you might have heard of her.

  • The Dawn Lady: E'lias maintains a small clinic in La Noscea for general practice and family medicine.

  • Eumeryia: E'lias helps run a Sharlayan medical outreach agency that might be at work in your community, whether that's Eorzea, Garlemald, or Tural.

The Kanaan-Windjammers

Nailah

A woman of many talents, as well traveled as well read. She is many things, a curator for the Noumenon tasked with the recovery and preservation of histories, a brilliant rune fencer, and E'lias's hearthfire and muse.
He would not be who he is without her, and he reminds her of that as frequently as it comes to mind. https://nailahkanaan.carrd.co/

Laleh and Arjantin

E'lias and Nailah have two children. Their daughter, Laleh, nearly two, and their son Arjantin, getting near a year. Both share their mother's wild hair, and their father's curiosity. While Arjantin still prefers to hide behind Nailah, Laleh will be the center of attention, wherever she is.

Practice and Method

Among these, perhaps the most distinguished is an altruistic art which draws upon the wisdom of aetherology, sorcery, and medicine. Dubbed somanoutics, the art seeks to heal and protect by manipulating corporeal aether through the use of nouliths, a flying array of foci. Practitioners are dedicated to the betterment of mankind, and for their wisdom and compassion, eventually came to be known simply as sages.Core to the identity of the somanoutic practitioner is the desire to journey, to take the arts they've come to learn and see them used to make life better, wherever they might be. E'lias has chosen traveling medicine as his methodology, and as such is the consummate generalist. The needs of remote communities in Eorzea and beyond are rarely predictable, and in serving them E'lias practices both crisis and family medicine, as well as offering marriage and family therapy in the communities he visits. As the oath he took requires, E'lias treats all patients, without concern for praise, without judgement, and without the expectation of reward.

The prime object of the physician in the whole art of medicine should be to cure that which is diseased; and if this can be accomplished in various ways, the least troublesome should be selected; for this is more becoming a good man. - Hippocrates

The Dawn Lady Clinic

With the continent's wars receding and the season of conflict coming to an end, some in Sharlayan have sought ways to mend the wounds on the continent they left behind. That seeking kindled a movement within Physis Technon, a sending of Sages out to Eorzean and Ilsabardian communities to treat the wounds left behind by years of conflict and strife. The Dawn Lady is a product of that effort. The 'Lady' is a La Noscean free clinic sponsored by Physis Technon's Medical Mission, currently run by E'lias Windjammer, a Sage assigned to La Noscea by the mission. The clinic is equipped for general medicine and family counseling, and when necessary emergency medicine, though E'lias prefers to conduct his work out in the communities proper.

The great acts of love are done by those who are habitually performing small acts of kindness. Love is knowing that even when you are alone, you will never be lonely again. The great happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved. Loved for ourselves - even loved in spite of ourselves. - Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

Somanoutic Method and Practice

Among the many inventions arising from within its hallowed halls is the incomparable somanoutics, an altruistic art that draws upon the principles of aetherology, sorcery, and medicine. This prompts a question, what does it say about a nation when it claims medicine as its highest artform?E'lias, and those who he studies under, would say that Sharlayan's legacy ought to be a mended wound, ought to be the restoration of the star, the restoration of places marred by a conflict the nation avoided.

"What is said about men often has as much influence upon their lives, and especially upon their destinies, as what they do." - Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

Technae

All aetheric healing is encouragement. Encouragement of the body's inherent regenerative capabilities to cleanse infection or heal wounds. Where some disciplines rely on simple enhancement of those capabilities, Somanoutics requires a more detailed methodology. In developing that, E'lias employs an array of somanoutic techniques (technae), for diagnosis and treatment. The list below defines a handful of medicinal and protective techniques, by no means his entire repertoire.

  • Ezytysis [Trace/Diagnosis]: An advanced form of the first technae students of Somanoutics are taught, Ezytysis expands on the application of Diagnosis to provide targeted examination of both physical and aetheric wounds.

  • Katharysis: A utility technae, Katharysis removes contaiminants from a surface through aetheric scouring, a way of keeping gloves clean in environments where clean water may be hard to come by.

  • Philosophia: Somanoutic arts involve the precise manipulation of aether, whether that is the aetheric transfer that passes between physician and patient through the Kardia link, or targeted amplification through Krasis, Philosophia is the culmination of that line of thought, amplifying the aetheric capabilities of regenerative magic in the surrounding area.

  • Kardia: Standard Kardia technae provide a stream of regenerative energy flowing between the sage and their patient. E'lias's training in the Thavnarian dancing arts has welded this line of thinking with the capabilities of Closed Position, providing both regenerative and encouraging energies.

A Sage's Panoply

Metanoia

As a reminder of new mornings, and new roads, E'lias uses a 'Metanoia' pattern set of lancets. The name translates roughly to 'change of heart', something he hopes to remember, and something he hopes his service encourages in his patients. The Metanoia design pays homage to his earlier noulith, and the gilding homage to Nailah, and to the change of heart she inspired.

Life is short, the art long, opportunity fleeting, experiment treacherous, judgment difficult. - Hippocrates

The Askelpian Pattern

A Sage's uniform marks them as a healer, marks them as safe, and most importantly, as clean and professional. E'lias keeps to the standard colors of blue and white, though he prefers the Order's Askelpian pattern to the more polished Didact's pattern.

The Burden of the Masterwork

As part of his introduction to Physis Technon, E'lias received a soul crystal from Alexandara Bienvenue. One created by a founding member of Physis, Banagher Engles. With the skill given by the stone came a burden, to carry on Engles' legacy.
